This morning I decided to back to a Youtube video by Sean Vigue the video was his power yoga routine. Oh before I get into this, why don’t I explain power yoga. Power yoga or yoga flows. Is yoga where you transition between poses instead of starting a pose, finishing the pose and starting a new one. Pretty simple right?
Now to my story. When first tried to do this video I struggled and struggled hard. I couldn’t keep up at all, by the time I did one pose he had already moved on to the next one, I would be constantly falling over and didn’t have the strength or stamina to do the whole video. I am pretty sure I bailed out at like 4 minutes. This was frustrating as all hell, but instead of letting this defeat me. I decided to go back and work on my fundaments of yoga.
I spent the next month practising the poses, doing smaller yoga flows and working on my strength and core. It was going well and I felt like I had come at least a little way to being able to do flows and power yoga.
This morning I decided to rise to the challenge of that video. I knew I would probably fall over and more than likely not finish it, but my goodness I bloody did it. Start to finish. Yes, wabbled, I shook and I fell over but I got to the end. I was a sweaty mess but felt fucking great. I went way beyond what I thought were my limits. I surprised myself and this surprise brought me to a great moment. I am getting the hang of it.
This moment today has given me such a burst to do more. I don’t see barriers or walls, I see challenges now.
